Edinburgh Dear Families, Our plans are taking shape for this year’s Edinburgh Workshop. We will be at the same venue as last year: George Watson’s College, Colinton Road, Edinburgh EH10 5EG. The dates are 17th, 18th, and 19th of October. We will start on Friday evening at 7 with a welcome for parents with wine, music and a talk with Sven Shögren and Wilfried van Gorp. We will be welcoming Wilfried for the first time in Edinburgh, although he used to visit Brenda Smith’s Workshops in Ayr, and some families met him in Turin. Other good friends who have said ‘yes’ so far are Helen Brunner, Dorothy Conaghan, Mary McCarthy, Tomás McCarthy, Karen Powel, Hector Scott -and ‘Thunder Dogs’ our terrific Barn Dance band. There will be large and small group lessons, a ‘play-together’, concerts, talks for parents, games for children, nice things to eat….. All ingredients for Dr Suzuki’s recipe for success! Friday October17th- at 7.00 pm until about 8.30, Welcome for parents. Please send in some questions in advance for the discussion opportunity with Sven and Wilfried. Saturday Oct. 18th – 9 am: Registration Sunday Oct. 19th – 9 30 until 4.45 Workshop activities, including Final Concert This year we have a web sight. The booking form and further information can be found at www.edinburghsuzukistrings.org.uk I regret that we have had to put up our fees again. Last year we had a substantial deficit, in spite of fund raising efforts by Edinburgh families and some generous donations. We are a non profit-making organization and none of the committee or the helpers receives any payment. I hope you will agree that the workshop is still tremendous value! There will be informal lunch hour concerts again -but this year we would ask you to let us know if you wish to perform and I will make up a programme in advance. No piece can last more than three minutes, trios, or groups will be very welcome. Suzuki Workshops should demonstrate Dr Suzuki’s principles and philosophy. They should give the children joy in their music skills, involving and motivating the whole family and the teachers. Do come and join us and help to achieve these aims in 2008!
